On February 1, 2024, the researchers from the Restoration team visited the members of the Pomonte Agricultural Cooperative with the aim of presenting the Restoration project and identifying potential synergies in the field of research and technological transfer.
Particular emphasis was given to the possibility of using Blockchain technology to support not only the implementation of parametric insurance policies, an output of the project, but also to ensure the traceability and tracking of the cooperative members' products.
The Restoration project, hosted at www.restoration.unifi.it, is a multidisciplinary platform that aims to integrate advanced technologies and scientific research to support the agricultural sector in the context of climate change. It involves experts in economic law, agricultural practices, and innovative technologies to create highly specialized insurance and risk management tools. Specifically, the meeting discussed the implementation of parametric insurance policies, an innovative product that uses objective data and predefined parameters for a rapid and transparent determination of indemnities, offering more effective and immediate insurance coverage in the event of adverse events, such as extreme climate conditions or natural disasters.
Equally important was the discussion on the use of Blockchain technology, which in the Restoration project plays a key role not only in ensuring the efficiency of the new insurance policies but also in providing an unprecedented traceability system for agricultural products. With Blockchain, every stage of the production chain, from sowing to consumer, can be independently and securely recorded, ensuring maximum transparency and traceability for the products of the Pomonte cooperative.
The Pomonte cooperative, known for its commitment to eco-friendly agricultural practices and high-quality food production, showed great interest in these innovations. The possibility of sharing real-time data on production cycles and crop health through Blockchain opens new perspectives for more informed and responsible agriculture.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to further explore these opportunities, with the goal of promoting a resilient and sustainable agricultural model that can dynamically respond to the challenges posed by climate change and market demands. The collaboration between the Restoration team and the Pomonte Agricultural Cooperative is seen as a significant step forward towards a future where technology and agricultural tradition merge for the benefit of producers, consumers, and the environment.
