The agricultural sector sees an increase in the frequency and intensity of adverse events. The tools of resilience, other than public intervention, have to be rethinked, and in particular

insurance coverage, whose diffusion is currently low due to costs, bureaucracy, and progressive

increase of uneven extreme events, often difficult for insurers to foresee.

New technologies can help to solve these issues by studying new risk assessment and damage assessment models to settle claims. These new models will also make possible to set flexible risk mitigation techniques related to the evolution of phenomena.

In particular it is fundamental to study new cost and behavioural models:

- risk mitigation systems, through the adoption of real-time monitoring systems for the

agricultural sector (agricultural land);

- monitoring of farmer's activities so to create virtuous and rewarding behaviours related to the premium paid by the farmer;

- development of premium regulation systems based on resilience measures adopted by the

farmer;

- automatic settlement of damages following adverse and uneven events, also with reduction of costs and fraud;

The development of these new business models cannot be disentangled from an analysis of the application of new technologies related to Industry 4.0 (e.g. crop modelling, Internet of Things and Blockchain).

In particular, the Blockchain technology aims to be the fundamental element connecting

monitoring, registration, stratification and certification of data on the supply chain, so to guarantee complete transparency of the information and therefore allowing the monitoring the actual behaviour.

In particular, the project foresees the application of these new models along with the supply

chains of ancient grains, oil and wine (from farm to fork) in pilot cases based in Tuscany, to be used as reference models for out scaling.
